6th of October City (in Egyptian dialect: City of Six October) is a new Egyptian city of the first generation, located in Giza Governorate, and administratively affiliated to the New Urban Communities Authority. It was established by Decree No. 504 of 1979 of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, to reduce the population density of Giza City. It is located 38 km from Cairo and is characterized by its low population density and also a lower temperature than Cairo due to its height above sea level. The city was named after the October 6 War in 1973, like other cities that were named in the same manner such as (Sadat City - Tenth of Ramadan City - Obour City). Al-Kafrawi Axis (named after Hasaballah Al-Kafrawi)

The city was planned during the era of the late President Anwar Sadat, and is one of the huge projects implemented by the Ministry of Planning during the era of Minister Hasaballah Al-Kafrawi. It is considered one of the most successful industrial cities in Egypt, and it is also the most populated new city, as it includes 12 neighborhoods within the city cordon and expanded beyond that in a few years, as private urban complexes multiplied, and most of its neighborhoods are characterized by good architectural organization and paved roads, and the height of its buildings does not exceed several floors. The city includes many educational institutions, as it has the two largest universities owned by the private sector in addition to other specialized universities, and it also has public hospitals and major private hospitals, and it also has a large number of higher and intermediate institutes reaching more than thirty higher institutes, and it also has a number of major commercial centers and a number of entertainment cities and it has its own international airport, and it also has the Media Production City and the main control unit for the Arab satellite Nilesat, and it has many television and film production studios, in which many Egyptian and Arab artistic works are produced, and this It was pushed to become an independent governorate from 2008 until 2011 and was called “6th of October Governorate”, then it returned to being a city again after the January 25 Revolution.
